As the new Chief of Staff of Health Sciences North (HSN), you will be joining the organization at a critical juncture as it completes the implementation of its 2019-2024 Strategic Plan. We will be starting to plan for the capital redevelopment and determine the new tactical direction for HSN in 2024. HSN is a tertiary care centre serving patients, families, and communities of Northeastern Ontario (30% in rural communities, 23% Francophone, 11% Indigenous); HSN’s services span 15 sites across Greater Sudbury, with 17 satellite sites throughout the Northeast. HSN is one of Northern Ontario's largest employers, and its largest hospital, with 4,300 employees, 600 medical staff, 2,100 learners and 700 volunteers.

HSN is an academic health sciences centre affiliated with NOSM University and Laurentian University, and it is recognized among Canada's Top 40 Research Hospitals. In the last five years, HSN expanded its footprint with our new Labelle Innovation and Learning Centre, a new PET-CT Suite, the acquisition of a second MRI, new space for its Children’s Treatment Centre program, and renovations to be completed in 2023 for 52 new inpatient beds.

The ideal candidate is a physician licensed to practice in Ontario and is in good standing with their respective College, with the ability to gain privileges at HSN and an academic appointment through NOSM University. A fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC or equivalent) or membership within the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) is mandatory. Ideally, they will require 5 years of experience, preferably 10 years within progressive medical leadership roles, and experience within a large multi-specialty clinic, an acute healthcare facility or another type of large multi-specialty healthcare setting. It is preferred that the candidate has previous experience in an academic healthcare environment as well as leading and implementing initiatives in a variety of programs. Strong experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of best practice quality and safety initiatives is essential. The successful candidate should bring proficient clinical and administrative leadership skills, with extensive knowledge facilitating successful change in the delivery of patient-centred care and meeting the key goals of the organization.
