Carpenter Hospice has been a vital part of the Burlington community for the past 17 years, offering residential-based care to people in the last stages of their lives.  Today Carpenter Hospice remains a place where residents and their loved ones can spend their final days as they wish, in a comfortable and peaceful environment surrounded by nature.  It is staffed by an incredibly dedicated team of healthcare professionals and community volunteers, whose sole focus is to provide compassionate, quality care to meet residents’ needs.   Carpenter Hospice is an important community palliative care resource for Burlington’s almost 200,000 residents.  The Burlington community is growing and aging.  Palliative care is also changing – it is about caring for people from the time of a life limiting diagnosis, through to their final days, and supporting their loved ones.  The 11-bedroom Carpenter Hospice is championed by more than 200 volunteers and the tremendous financial generosity of the Burlington community.


The organization seeks a talented Executive Director (ED) who will oversee the overall management of the organization.  Working in conjunction with the Board of Directors, the ED will establish realistic short-term and long-term goals for the organization that meet the needs of the community served,  including the fiscal realities faced by the organization.  The ED will identify, solidify and grow the necessary community and stakeholder relationships to ensure the sustainability and growth of the Hospice.

The Individual

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably a Master’s Degree in Business or a health-related field, as well as a minimum of five years leadership experience in managing a community-based health care organization.  Ideally, they will also have experience with - and a passion for - the work of hospice.  Clinical experience would be beneficial.  A natural with client service, they possess a desire to lead their team in the delivery of the highest quality of care to the patients and families that Carpenter Hospice serves.  Holding the belief that an organization is only as good as the staff it employs, they are a talented mentor who can engage teams, and focus on driving positive organizational change through the morale and engagement of staff at all levels.
