President & Chief Executive Officer – Health Sciences North / Health Sciences North Research Institute

As the new President & Chief Executive Officer of Health Sciences North (HSN) and Health Sciences North Research Institute (HSNRI), you will join the organization at a critical juncture, as it completes the implementation of its 2019-2024 Strategic Plan, plans a capital redevelopment, and develops new strategic directions in 2024. HSN is a tertiary care centre serving patients, families and communities of Northeastern Ontario (30% in rural communities, 23% Francophone, 11% Indigenous); HSN’s services span 15 sites across Greater Sudbury, with 17 satellite sites throughout the Northeast. HSN is one of Northern Ontario's largest employers, and its largest hospital, with 4,300 employees, 600 medical staff, 2,100 learners and 700 volunteers.
An academic health sciences centre, affiliated with NOSM University and Laurentian University, HSN is recognized among Canada's Top 40 Research Hospitals. In the last five years, HSNRI opened a new facility, while HSN expanded its footprint with a new Labelle Innovation and Learning Centre, a new PET-CT Suite, the acquisition of a second MRI, new space for its Children’s Treatment Centre program and renovations to be completed in 2023 for 52 new inpatient beds.
We are looking for an exceptional and inspirational leader of teams, as well as a dynamic individual who will represent HSN and HSNRI externally with our community, government, academic partners and other regional and system stakeholders to build on our successes to date. They will be an expert strategist, able to clearly develop, articulate and deliver on a health and innovation strategy that responds to a diverse and growing population.
The ideal candidate will possess educational preparation including, but not limited to, an undergraduate degree and Master’s degree in Business, Health Administration or related field. They will bring their success in an executive leadership role in a complex, healthcare organization or system of a similar scale. The new President and CEO will have demonstrated ability to build and sustain strong working relationships with various levels of government in Ontario, internal and external stakeholders and communities. They are a systems-thinker, able to capitalize on opportunities for innovation and quality improvement, and lead in a period of great change.
