Ontario College of Pharmacists – Registrar and Chief Executive Officer

The Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP), incorporated in 1871, is the registering and regulating body for the profession of Pharmacy in Ontario. The College’s mandate is to serve and protect the public interest and hold Ontario's registered pharmacists and pharmacy technicians accountable to the established legislation, standards of practice, Code of Ethics and policies and guidelines relevant to pharmacy practice. The College also regulates and accredits community and hospital pharmacies, holding them accountable to operational standards and relevant policies and legislation; pharmacies must be accredited by the College in order to operate in Ontario.
The Registrar & Chief Executive Officer (Registrar & CEO) operates under the direction of a Board of Directors. The Registrar and CEO is required to establish goals and objectives, set priorities, allocate resources, direct the planning and organization of work, and drive a supportive and high-performing corporate culture, and evaluate the operational effectiveness of this complex organization. They will ensure that corporate governance practices are effectively implemented and maintained across the organization. As well, the Registrar & CEO is the lead executive in charge of overseeing the regulatory requirements of the Pharmacy profession, ensuring safe, professional and ethical standards. As important as both the corporate leadership and regulatory functions, is the external role that the Registrar & CEO plays within the profession, across the health system, government and multiple and diverse stakeholders to the organization.
The ideal candidate will possess at least 15 years of senior leadership experience within a complex multi-stakeholder healthcare setting, ideally within a regulated environment. The new Registrar & CEO may or may not be a member of the Pharmacy profession. They will have achieved academic preparation commensurate with other senior leaders in healthcare (a master’s degree in business, health administration, or a related field is preferred). They will have a good understanding of healthcare issues and trends, as well as an ability to anticipate the impact of federal/provincial government policy decisions on the profession. They will be a visionary business and people leader, with an ability to forge excellent relationships within the healthcare and academic communities, as well as the provincial and federal governments. They will display a collaborative and engaging leadership style that inspires trust both within the organization and with external stakeholders. They will possess strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and provide strategic advice at the executive and board levels. They are an effective communicator with the ability to engage with multiple audiences. Above all, they will be passionate about the organization’s mandate to protect the public through the promotion of ethical, quality care within the practice of pharmacy.
