Chief Executive Officer – ICES (Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences)

ICES is a not-for-profit corporation that is seeking a new Chief Executive Officer to lead the organization through a defining moment in its evolution. This is a rare opportunity for an exceptional leader to shape the next chapter and continue to advance ICES as a lead scientific institution and system partner in health research/analytics and data management.
The CEO of ICES must provide strong leadership in the rapidly evolving landscape of science, technology, and data, driven by emerging analytic capabilities such as Artificial Intelligence. To maximize the ability of Ontario to respond to important population and health‑system challenges, ICES will need to cultivate new partnerships, adopt innovative business models and accelerate modernization of data management and analysis infrastructure and practices. ICES must also continue to safeguard health information, public trust and confidence in the use of data to inform public policy.
The new CEO of ICES will have built their senior leadership profile and reputation through progressively senior leadership roles within a research and/or healthcare environment, and they will have distinguished themselves as a leader responsible for impactful changes to the system. They have conceived, led, and successfully executed innovative strategies (ideally with expertise in complex data and technology environments) and have actively embraced opportunities to establish their organization as a recognized innovator for system change. The leader we seek will be visionary, able to lead change, business performance, team building, strategy development and organizational growth. They will be a compelling leader of people, able to foster high-performance teams, enabling ICES to enter the next stage of evolution at this defining moment in health care, research/analytics, and innovation. They will be comfortable working in research/analytics, health system, and scientific environments and will have the ability to build strong relationships and establish their own credibility in the field. A consummate communicator, the new CEO will have a demonstrated ability to build exceptional relationships with scientists, health system partners, government, diverse communities, and Indigenous peoples. ICES is committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and accessible environment. The new CEO must also champion equity, diversity, and inclusion, ensuring that ICES’ research/analytics reflects and serves the diverse population of Ontario. At a minimum, the new CEO will possess credentials at an executive level and have a strong academic background (Master’s degree or higher).
ICES is a research and analytic institute leading thousands of cutting-edge studies that evaluate healthcare delivery and outcomes. ICES researchers access a vast and secure array of health-related data, including population-based health surveys, patient records and clinical and administrative databases. ICES is recognized as a leader in maintaining the privacy and security of health information due to its designations under Ontario privacy laws. At a moment when public trust is eroding and the information environment is saturated with both fact and falsehood, ICES’ scientific output serves as a vital anchor of credibility.
