Summary of Position

The Chief Medical Officer, Canada, will be primarily responsible for ensuring Teladoc Health Canada provides high-quality medical services. This position oversees and supports the growing provider network, including physicians, nurse practitioners and other allied health professionals, across the full provider lifecycle (e.g. recruitment, credentialling, regular communications and engagement, evaluation and communication of feedback, and offboarding). As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team in Canada, the Chief Medical Officer will be representing Teladoc Health Canada with various stakeholders, especially in the medical and healthcare community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical Strategy and Oversight
• Develop and lead the enterprise-wide clinical strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and innovation in care delivery
• Oversee the clinical delivery of medical services, ensuring effective coordination with operational, and quality teams
• Provide medical leadership for clinical governance by interpreting quality, safety, and compliance insights and ensuring appropriate clinical response
• Set and maintain clinical policies, standards, and protocols that define appropriate medical practice and support consistent, high quality care across virtual platforms, in collaboration with quality and operational partners

Quality & Patient Safety
• Be accountable for the clinical quality and safety of care delivered by the provider network, in alignment with established clinical best practices, regulatory standards, and accreditation requirements (e.g., Accreditation Canada)
• Review and act on quality, safety, and experience insights generated through organizational quality measurement and reporting processes, including addressing identified risks or performance issues
• Ensure appropriate clinical response to quality findings, including provider feedback, coaching, remediation, and training through the clinical education function, and escalation or offboarding where required

Team Leadership and Management
• Lead associate medical directors, clinical education, and provider network management teams to ensure effective delivery of clinical services
• Recruit, credential, and manage a multidisciplinary provider network, including physicians, nurse practitioners, and allied health professionals
• Provide clinical leadership and mentorship, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement

Regulatory Compliance
• Comply with medical regulations and standards set by regulatory bodies such as the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as well as federal and provincial healthcare laws related to the Canada Health Act and college requirements
• Ensure adherence to Privacy Laws, including reviewing PHI policies and procedures, overseeing privacy reporting and information requests
• Liaise with medical regulatory authorities and contribute to shaping virtual care policy frameworks

Innovation & Technology Integration
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to integrate clinical insights into platform development, ensuring technology supports clinical excellence
• Champion data-driven care models, including AI-enabled triage, remote monitoring, and personalized care pathways

Strategic Leadership
• As a member of the senior leadership team in Canada, collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop strategy and align medical responsibilities with business goals
• Provide medical guidance in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of programs and capabilities

Stakeholder Engagement & Partnership
• Support partner and client presentations, providing medical insights as required
• Collaborate and consult with other medical leaders within Teladoc Health including international initiatives supporting medical education, quality & safety, credentialing, training, and onboarding providers
• Represent the organization in external forums, panels, and partnerships with government, regulators, insurers, and healthcare organizations
• Partner internally and externally to guide research that measures quality and health outcomes

Financial Management
• Identify relevant metrics to evaluate provider performance, define guidelines for minimum time commitments, incentive structures, and feedback loops to continually improve the effectiveness and efficiency of medical service delivery
• Identify and mitigate risks or define investments required where related to patient safety and clinical service

Qualifications Required for Position
• MD or equivalent medical degree from an accredited institution
• Licensed (or eligible for licensure) with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) or equivalent
• Minimum of 10 years of clinical experience, including 5 years in a leadership or administrative role
• Demonstrated success in medical governance, quality improvement, and physician engagement
• Strong understanding of Canada’s healthcare system, hospital operations, and regulatory requirements
• Experience with accreditation processes and performance metrics
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and team-building skills
• Preferred clinical backgrounds include Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Hospital Medicine, or Hospitalist practice
