What is the Women Who Lead Governance Fellowship?

The Women Who Lead Governance Fellowship is a unique professional development opportunity for women across Canada in healthcare interested in breaking into the boardroom. Through leading faculty of governance experts, Board recruitment specialists and women in healthcare serving on non-profit boards, this program will give women a foundation in healthcare governance and direction on pursuing Board of Directors opportunities.

What is the Fellowship program and time commitment?

The Women Who Lead Governance Fellowship will involve a time commitment of approximately 10 hours of programming over a 4 month period. Content will be delivered over three core sessions and one optional session, providing insight into various areas of the governance journey.

Session 1: Boardroom Basics (March 18th 8-10am virtual session)

This legal 101 session will provide governance education on what you need to know about non-profit organizations and boards to be a Director.

Session 2: Rise to the Top (April 15th 12-2pm virtual session)

This interactive session will provide tools on navigating the governance recruitment process, including developing your board bio, advancing your board application and having a successful board interview.

Session 3: Leadership and Influence (May 21st 4-6:30pm in-person session in Toronto)

This panel event will provide insights on making an impact from women in governance who are serving as directors and officers on healthcare boards.

Session 4: Mock Board Interviews (June 18th 5-7pm, optional in-person session)

Building on feedback from our first year, this session will give fellows the opportunity to put their skills into practice with mock board interviews in a speed dating style.

Is there a cost for the Fellowship program?

We are pleased to be able to offer this comprehensive program free of charge. Program faculty from Mirams Becker and Miller Thomson are generously donating their time, resources, and expertise to lift the voices of women in the Women Who Lead community. Please note that while program costs are covered, applicants will be responsible for their own travel expenses associated with attending in-person sessions in Toronto, Ontario. We are happy to provide a letter confirming program enrolment to Fellows seeking support from their employer to cover these expenses.

Who can Apply?

This Fellowship is designed for women across Canada in healthcare at all career stages who have an interest in board governance and passion to make an impact. The Fellowship content is focused on foundational aspects of applying for a board position and navigating board dynamics. While the content is geared towards breaking into the boardroom (e.g., getting your first Board role), it is also help for women who are early in their Board journey.
