Event: Celebrating our first cohort in the Women Who Lead Governance Fellowship!

Toronto, ON (July 7, 2024) – Mirams Becker, Miller Thomson and Women Who Lead celebrated our first cohort in the Women Who Lead Governance Fellowship!

The Women Who Lead Governance Fellowship is a unique professional development opportunity for women in healthcare interested in breaking into the boardroom. Through leading faculty of governance experts, Board recruitment specialists and women in healthcare serving on non-profit boards, this program provides women a foundation in healthcare governance and direction on pursuing Board of Directors opportunities.

On June 20, 2024, Karima Kanani, Partner Healthcare Practice and Board Governance Specialist, hosted the inaugural cohort at the Miller Thomson offices where we heard from esteemed panelists Anjum Sultana, Susannah Margison, and Nicole Beben.

Panel member Anjum Sultana (Board Member of YMCA of Greater Toronto, Toronto Environmental Alliance and Regent Park Community Health Centre) shared her reflections on the event and her own governance journey on her blog Securing Your Seat At The Table (substack.com)

Fellows participated in programming over three sessions, providing insight into different areas of the governance journey.

Session 1: Boardroom Basics: a “legal 101” governance education session on what you need to know about non-profit organizations and boards to be a Director.

Session 2: Rise to the Top: An interactive session which provided tools on navigating the governance recruitment process, including developing your board bio, advancing your board application and having a successful board interview.

Session 3: Leadership and Influence: This panel event provided insights on making an impact from women in governance who are serving as directors and officers on healthcare boards.
