International Women’s Day: A Reflection

Launch 48

This International Women’s Day, Mirams Becker affirms our commitment to #ChooseToChallenge inequality, call out bias, question stereotypes, and help forge an inclusive world.

Today is International Women’s Day, a day that celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. This past year, in light of the pandemic, women predominantly shouldered the strain of managing a unique set of personal and professional circumstances. It was also the year my business partner and I took the leap to launch a woman-owned-and-operated executive search business, Mirams Becker.

I took a risk in an uncertain time and started a business while working from home, like many women, struggling to find the balance between being a business owner, a mother to two incredible children (age 4 and 7), at times a teacher, running from one screen to another during virtual learning, a house cleaner and cook, and a wife to a very busy professional. It has meant long hours and prioritization, but I believed in our work ethic, our business model and our value.

I am an executive search consultant who specializes in board and leadership recruitment within the healthcare sector. So, while the world has been experiencing the immeasurable difficulties and implications of a global pandemic, it is my clients and industry connections that are providing the critical leadership required in the fight against COVID-19.

The field of healthcare is one of a few sectors that has a dominant female workforce, we feel even more honoured to find, coach and place strong women and men into these ever important roles. The talent we uncover through our thorough and knowledgeable search strategy is establishing the healthcare leadership we all depend on now more than ever.

We feel honoured to support the sector that has worked tirelessly on the frontlines to care for and protect all of us during this health crisis. At Mirams Becker we have dedicated our careers to serving the healthcare sector – but now in a new, more flexible, nimble, and adaptive environment that offers the same level of high quality, high touch support that our clients have come to expect.

Today, I am particularly thankful for the extraordinary women I am inspired by daily, who have supported me in my career, raised me, taught me, and helped to shape me into the woman that I am today. It is also a day where I can briefly pause to reflect on an exciting period of personal and professional growth. Like so many women, I often get in the mindset of doing that I rarely pause to recognize all I have accomplished – successfully launching Mirams Becker in the midst of a global pandemic is worthy of a pause.

On International Women’s Day, I would like to thank my exceptional business Partner, Penny Mirams; our extremely talented, creative and hard-working team members, Colette Cassidy and Natalie Woods; and our long time executive advisor, John King, who has worked with women his entire career and supported equality in the workplace. We can be so proud of what we have built together!

My business partner and I have always prided ourselves on our emphasis on equity and diversity in recruitment. This International Women’s Day, Mirams Becker affirms our commitment to #ChooseToChallenge inequality, call out bias, question stereotypes, and help forge an inclusive world.
