Placement: ICES appoints Dr. Astrid Guttmann as new Chief Executive Officer

ICES is an independent, not-for-profit research and analytics institute that uses population-based health information to produce knowledge on a broad range of healthcare issues. ICES leads cutting-edge studies and analyses evaluating healthcare policy, delivery, and population outcomes. They are a recognized as a leader in maintaining the privacy and security of health information due to its designations under Ontario privacy laws.
As the CEO, Dr. Guttmann will advance ICES’ role as a global leader in health data analytics and research, strengthening its commitment to innovation while helping to shape a more responsive and evidence-informed health system. She will provide strong leadership in the rapidly evolving landscape of science, technology, and data, driven by emerging analytic capabilities such as Artificial Intelligence
Dr. Guttmann is a distinguished physician-scientist and internationally recognized leader in population health research. She has been a central figure at ICES for more than two decades, having joined the organization in 2001. Over the years, she has held several senior leadership roles, including Senior Core Scientist, Program Leader, and Chief Science Officer.
Dr. Guttman received a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University, a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Oxford, her Doctor of Medicine from McGill University, and her Master of Science from McMaster University.
